Working the Steps
I guess the same could be said about a Christian. If they really wanted to stop sinning, they would. All they have to do is stop. Trust me, it's not that easy. There is always the possibility of a relapse.
The Slippery Slope
He's calling us to remember our past and those times we exercised our free will and did something that we knew wasn't right that ended badly. We knowingly took that first step and the slope immediately got slippery and down we went.
A Friend Request From God?
After thoroughly vetting him, you make the decision it's safe to accept his friend request. Besides, he looks like a friend you could use when the going gets tough. Might make a good character witness.
All Fall Short?
Wait! What? You mean that somebody like me who has only committed some relatively minor sins is treated as an equal with a murderer, a rapist, or even a child molester?
Mayhem Like Me
That's what Paul means when he says, But you didn't learn that sort of thing from Christ. Now that sounds familiar. How many times did you hear your parents say something like, "You know better than that," or, "I didn't raise you to act that way."
Unity in Community
God has given his church an enormous responsibility, to make disciples in every nation. We need to start right here at ground zero. This involves preaching, teaching, healing, nurturing, giving, administering, building, and many other tasks. There is just too much need our there for us to do it alone. We need to partner with other like-minded churches.
